Our team of lawyers at LMA regularly advises and drafts various documentation pertaining to the acquisition of software applications as well as various software license agreements, outsourcing agreements, Islamic software agreements, software and hardware maintenance contracts, service level contracts and escrow agreements pertaining to software acquisition. We have advised banks on software applications and licensing with companies, including IBM, Oracle, HP, Microsoft and SunGard.

Major work highlights include advising a leading Pakistani Bank on the acquisition of its core banking application from Fidelity USA and various third party service providers, including Siemens. The services provided included all negotiations and review, advice and drafting in respect of all contracts such as maintenance, service levels and escrow contracts, as well performance and advance payment guarantees.

We also have in-depth knowledge of the telecom regime operating in Pakistan, and our lawyers have represented the majority of telecommunication companies in relation to their local loop, wireless and long distance and international, and mobile and class value added licenses, which include the provision and transmission of broadband services through various mediums. Recently, with the advent and growth of companies and entrepreneurial activities in the tech sphere, we have advised various startups ventures in setting up and funding business activities in Pakistan, including Keenu, Karlo Compare and others.

  • LMA continues to advise Mastercard in relation to the law relating to payment services, banking, competition, data privacy and security and anti-money laundering obligations in connection with the offering of a variety of products and services in Pakistan from time to time.

  • LMA has been appointed by Allied Bank to advise on integration of fintech companies with banking platforms. As part of the scope of work, LMA has drafted standard documentation for the client in respect of on-boarding of fintechs, including application form and the agreement to be signed between the client and fintech companies for collaboration.

  • LMA has been engaged for drafting, reviewing and advising on various contracts for technological services provided by our client, Covalent Private Limited, including contracts related to the purchase of licenses and the development, customization, implementation and hosting of digital platforms by Covalent Private Limited. Covalent Private Limited provides services to a large number of banks and financial institutions, including customers located outside Pakistan.

  • LMA is advising Zapp One Systems (Private) Limited in all the legal and transactional matters, involving contracts with various stakeholders, for Zapp to establish an e-commerce platform in Pakistan.
